Copycat London Fog Latte Recipe (1)

I'm one of those people that need a warm and comforting drink before sitting down to get some work done, or for curling up with a book. It just doesn't feel right if I don't have a warm mug of something delicious in my hand!

Whether it's coffee, or a delicious tea latte I just have to satisfy that craving for something warm, creamy, and sometimes sweet. This London Fog Tea Latte is just like the one at Starbucks, but can be made at home for a fraction of the cost! I like to sweeten it with honey to keep things natural and flavorful, but this recipe works just as well with granulated sugar or even maple syrup!

If you're obsessed with Earl Grey like I am, you're going to LOVE this London Fog Tea Latte, I promise! It's filled with all the citrusy, floral notes that you love about Earl Grey, and it gets a boost from a touch of dried lavender buds. Best of all!? You don't need a fancy milk steamer or equipment to make this easy recipe! All you need is an immersion or regular blender to make this delicious coffeehouse copycat.

Let's get started!

Ingredients

  • Earl Grey tea: I like to use the double bergamot earl grey from Stash, but you can use a standard blend if you prefer.
  • Lavender Buds: This adds a special touch and is a total MUST for me! You can find food grade dried lavender buds on Amazon, or at a local health food store.
  • Honey: I like to use honey, but you could use granulated sugar if preferred.
  • Milk: I like to use whole milk because its ultra creamy, but you can use a non dairy milk like cashew milk or coconut milk if desired.
  • Vanilla: London Fog Lattes always have a touch of vanilla! In place of the vanilla syrup that is used at Starbucks, we use a touch of vanilla extract.

Equipment Needed

  • Immersion Blender: This makes blending your favorite drinks and lattes directly in a jar or cup SUPER easy! This one is very affordable and available on Amazon.
  • OR a Blender: If you don't have an immersion blender, a standard blender works great. My favorite budget-friendly option is the Ninja Professional.

Start off by adding one or two tea bags to a heat proof mug that holds at least 12 ounces. Add several pinches of dried lavender buds.

Add 1 cup of boiling water to the mug, and allow the earl grey tea to steep for 10 minutes, or 5 minutes if using two tea bags.

Remove the tea bags, squeezing any extra liquid out of the tea bags. Use a spoon to remove the lavender buds.

If you have a handheld immersion blender, add your brewed tea to a wide mouth mason jar. If you don't have an immersion blender, use a regular blender instead.

Add in the warmed milk to the jar or blender.

Place your immersion blender into the wide mouth mason jar, and blend until frothy and well combined, or about 1 minute.

If using a blender, add all of the ingredients to a jug and blend until light and frothy, or about 30 seconds.

Once the tea latte is fully blended, pour it into the mug you used to brew the tea.

Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking, and serve immediately.

Variations and Substitutions

Vegan and Dairy Free: Substitute the milk for a nut milk of your choice, or coconut milk. Use maple syrup or sugar in place of the honey.

Iced: Brew your tea with two tea bags. Make the latte as directed, and pour your latte over a tumbler full of ice cubes. Allow to rest for 2-3 minutes and serve.

Sugar free: Use a sweetener of your choice that measures 1:1 with sugar, OR make a substitution based on its equivalency to sugar.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is in a Starbucks London Fog?

A Starbucks London Fog tea latte features brewed earl grey tea, steamed milk, vanilla syrup, and lavender. The ingredient list is simple, making this coffeehouse favorite easy to recreate at home! All you need is earl grey tea bags, dried lavender buds, sugar or honey, and some vanilla extract.

Does a London Fog tea latte have caffeine?

Yes! Since a London Fog tea latte uses earl grey tea, which contains caffeine, the resulting latte will have caffeine as well. It is lower in caffeine versus the typical cup of coffee, so it's a great option if you are sensitive to excess caffeine.

Is the London Fog latte sweet?

When it comes to Lattes, the London Fog Latte is lower on the sweet side than other offerings. It is citrusy, slightly floral, and just a bit sweet thanks to the addition of a touch of sugar, syrup, or honey. You can add more sugar to your taste, but its meant to be on the lighter side when it comes to sweetness.

What is a "dirty" London Fog?

A dirty London Fog Latte is when a regular London Fog Latte has the added boost of an espresso shot, thus increasing the flavor profile and caffeine content. The blend of espresso and tea makes for a very unique flavor combo, and is not for typical coffee and tea drinkers!
